lkfmdc...

Is it just me, or do you also REALLY like the boxing combo of:

Jab, Rear Uppercut, Lead Hook, Cross

That is probably one of my favorite combo's to use. That and Lead Uppercut/Lead Hook.

The first one works very well against a Southpaw, I've found.

Khun Kao

OK, OK, now I am really going to give "trade secret" stuff away. We LOVe that combination, which we call "logic" in our shorthand (I am sure you guys also use code when coaching during matches). We ften fight southpaw and use it against orthodox. It probably is responsible for the three golden gloves finalists we have had as well :)

The code thing might also be another topic for a thread

Actually, we have very few "codes".

The only two I actually remember are "Tomahawk" and "Soi Dow".

"Tomahawk" was basically Master K's "Battle Cry" when I was in the ring. I was a clinch knee specialist. When I began training with K, it was just after the Gulf War. K was really impressed with my Clinching (and non-clinching) straight knees, and began calling them "Tomahawk" as in Tomahawk Cruise Missle. That is how I got my ring name of "Khun Kao Charuad" or "Mister Knee Rocket". (this can also be translated to "King of Rocket Knees")

Master K would start yelling "TOMAHAWK" when he wanted me to clinch and carve my opponent up. I also like to refer to a barrage of clinching straight knees as the "War Dance". (sticking with the Native American Motiff)

The other wasn't necessarily a code. "Soi Dow" is Thai for "aim to the stars". We use that term when referring to an uppercut thrown from long range, or outside of clinch range.

I've been discussing with the other SuriyaSak instructors and trainers to come up with a numbering system for the most basic combos, such as:

#1- Jab, Cross, Roundhouse Kick

I have asked for all of them to come up with a list of approximately ten combinations that they feel are the most important combo's for a Thai boxer to know. We will then decide on a numbering or naming system for them so that when performing drills or in the ring, we can just yell out a name or number and the fighter will know what to do.

Perhaps we should discuss this in private? :)

Khun Kao Charuad; SuriyaSak Muay Thai
